Purton Vets is proud to be a Chicken Vet Accredited Practice
Our vets all have additional training in chicken diseases over and above the limited training given at university. We are a recognised associate practice of The Chicken Vet, part of St David's Poultry in Devon who look after millions of birds, so good advice is always to hand and you can follow these links to some excellent chicken health resources......
We believe chickens deserve the best care and many of our patients are loved as individual characters within a small flock. We also recognise that chickens are not really companion animals and our approach to their treatment and care is a balance between their welfare and the financial limitations of diagnostic tests. There is a lot you can do to keep your birds healthy especially when it comes to diet, housing and how you manage introductions to your flock. We recommend you look at the Health Care Pathway, an approach designed to inform, educate and guide owners through some of the most common ailments that affect chickens. Then, if you need more specific information, look at Health and Common Diseases.
