Harvey the lifestyle dogĀ® has made it his business to support the National Pet Month Charity for many years. Harvey's Veterinary Practice at Purton and Cricklade were very excited about supporting the charity's theme for 2009. 'Healthy Pets make Happy Pets' focusing on obesity and other health related issues.
Difficult as it was there had to be a winner and many runners up, in two age groups. They all received a Harvey certificate and badge (presented by Harvey at school) but the outright winners not only had their picture printed on the vets vaccination reminder cards they had the opportunity to join Harvey at Brunel FM radio station to talk about their love of pets. Oliver Head's afternoon show on 15th July was taken over by Emily and Georgia and their families. Amber Dunham RVN, practice manager, at the Purton Veterinary Group and Harvey, who panted into the microphone, completed the take over for a good thirty minutes.

National Pet Month's aims are to:
* promote responsible pet ownership
* make people aware of the benefits of pets for people and people for pets
* increase public awareness of services available from professionals who work with animals
* raise awareness of the role, value and contribution to society of working companion animals

6. Protect against disease. Your vet can provide you with advice.
7. Prevent unwanted litters and neuter your pet when appropriate.
8. Groom your pet regularly.
9. Control your pet and ensure it is properly identified.
10. Take out pet insurance for dogs, cats, rabbits and horses to cover against unexpected veterinary fees and third party liability.
