Graeme and Jos have recently registered as volunteers for the Cats Protection joining 6800 others who work to help improve cat welfare.  The practice will help look after cats while they wait to be rehomed and we all look forward to contributing towards the excellent work of the Wootton Bassett Branch, the most proactive Branch we have ever worked with.

Rachael, one of our veterinary nurses, has been a cats protection volunteer for a few years now and seems to get all the pregnant females to care for.  Nichola, one of our veterinary surgeons, became a volunteer soon after joining the practice and currently has 2 cats sharing her home.  Amber, our Practice Manager, is a fosterer at the surgery.  That means nearly half our staff now volunteer for Cats Protection and the other half help out as much as they can anyway.

Formed in 1927, Cats Protection has grown to become the UK's leading feline welfare charity. They now rehome and reunite 55,500 cats and kittens every year, through a network of over 250 voluntary-run branches and 29 adoption centres.

There are many different roles you can volunteer for within the charity from fostering, to fund raising and administration.  We chose to foster cats as we have some room for cabins in our practice garden.  The cabin arrived and was installed last week and the very next day we had a guest.

Betty is the first to try out our heated cabin with a large run and a shelf to sunbathe on.  She has a problem with her kneecap which is permanently dislocated and she walks with a limp.  Hopefully we can operate on the knee and get her back to good health so she can jump up onto the cat shelf and enjoy the good weather.

We have always been rather proud of our commitment to being a feline friendly practice and have recently developed a cat ward to keep cats in a quiet space away from noisy dogs.  We have plans for a separate area of reception for cats and have a cat only clinic one afternoon a week.

Any enquiries about the cats we have fostered need to be directed through the Wootton Bassett Branch. The Branch covers a large area of North Wiltshire, including Calne, Chippenham, Parts of Corsham, Devizes, Malmesbury, Marlborough, Pewsey, Ramsbury, Wootton Bassett and Wroughton.
