I came to the surgery in 2007
when a kind human found me and thought I looked a bit worse for wear so
brought me to the nice people here at Purton Vets as I had lost my way
home. I was really skinny when I arrived and they took me in and kept
me in one of their nice warm kennels with a comfy bed.
They fed me lots of good food
and gave me lots attention and I started to feel much better. I kept
hoping that my Mum and Dad would come and find me but they never did.
The nurses started to feel
sorry for me stuck in a cage all the time so they would give me the run
of the kennel room when there were no other pets staying in and as time
went on they let me move upstairs to the office and staff kitchen,
which is what I now call my home.
The team here at Purton Vets
started to talk about finding me a nice new home through the wonderful
people at the Cats Protection in Wootton Bassett. As time went by
though it was noticed that although I was eating loads I was still
quite skinny and I had developed a funny twitch. My vet thought that
this was due to a small electrical problem in my brain. They ran a few
blood tests on me and found that I had something called
Hyperthyroidism. This is the overproduction of thyroid hormone by the
thyroid glands which are found in my neck. It is quite commonly seen in
older cats like me. It also gave me a good excuse for being a bit
grumpy sometimes! I now have to take a tablet a day which is a bit of a
drag but they make me feel much better and I have put on loads of
weight!

Anyway, that's enough about all
my illnesses. I quite like living here at Purton Vets as I like all the
coming and going at the practice. I have got all my staff well trained
and if I shout loud enough at them someone will usually put biscuits in
my bowl. On a good day I can manage to get at least three breakfast
meals and a couple more at suppertime without them knowing!!
I do a lot of snoozing during
my day and usually sleep on the new sofa in the staff kitchen but if I
am really lucky and someone leaves the doors open I can sneak next door
into the nurses flat and sleep on their bed. This doesn't make me very
popular as I am quite hairy, but it is worth the effort for some added
comfort!
My other favourite activity
during the day is walking on the desks in the office. The vets and
nurses think that it is their desk, but of course it is mine! They
often leave nice warm paperwork on the desk which I like to sleep on.
Occasionally walking across the computer keyboards seems to get me lots
attention!

I sometimes go down stairs to
see what pets we have visiting us for the day and I sit in the middle
of the Prep Room floor and talk to the nurses.
The other activity that gets me lots of attention is sitting at the top of the stairs as everyone has to go past me.
